Laughing Bear Lodge is perched only a few feet away from majestic Tahoe’s western shoreline. Inspired by the Old Tahoe lodge style, my clients built this vacation home with a flair that gives every guest the feeling that it’s been standing for generations. The master bath is situated on the second floor and includes a walk-in steam shower and sunken tub, both with grand views of the alpine lake. Designed with privacy options in mind, the different portions of the bathroom can be secluded by closing custom etched glass pocket doors.
The material and color pallet were inspired by the hues and textures of Lake Tahoe. Rich Sapele wood cabinetry with Alder inlay and trim work, coupled with walnut stained Redwood ceilings and softly stained Pine log beams hint to the Old Tahoe architecture as the home appears from the exterior.
Light Moonstone travertine floors blend with various tones of blue and green found in the handmade ceramic accents, and create a runner affect that unites the two areas seamlessly. Limestone slab countertops support a traditional wood framed mirrors edged with a ribbon that adds drama and elegance to this turn of the Century home.
Even the small details of the room were given special attention, from the hand forged candelabra style light fixtures to the bronze cabinet knobs and door pulls, and custom etched bronze switch plate covers.
Keeping true to the inspiration era, but playfully integrating modern-day colors and textures, this bathroom delivers elegance and sophistication to a rustic log cabin built on a cherished piece of land.
